Bike Week – 14-22nd June 2014 – is an annual event which shows how cycling can easily be part of everyday life. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people to give cycling a go all over the UK. As the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK, Bike Week encourages over half a million people to join in events, rethink their everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around.
During Bike Week you can hire a bike, free for a day, to discover the benefits of cycling. You could cycle to work, take a trip to the local shops, visit a friend or one of the many local, visitor attractions.
Just recently our hire bikes were treated to a week long trip along the newly opened, John Muir Way trail when American visitors cycled from Dunbar to Helensburgh. Our hire bikes wonder where they will be taken next?!
If you are looking for some information, or inspiration regarding routes, East Lothian Council’s, Visit East Lothian website has super, local maps which detail the cycle routes as well as information including historical places of interest, picnic sites, where shops and cafes can be found in the more rural areas…and more!
We also stock a variety of cycling route maps in-store including Spokes East Lothian, Sustrans route maps (our shop is located on Sustrans Route 76), the new John Muir Way map and a leaflet produced by Scottish Borders Council showing cycle routes around Eyemouth, Berwickshire.
Free bike safety checks will also be offered during Bike Week, although you can access this service from us all year round. We are members of the Association of Cycle Traders and hold Cytech certification, which is the bicycle industry’s recognised training and accreditation scheme for bicycle mechanics.
