Last year we enjoyed the John Muir Festival in Dunbar, which celebrated the life and work of the world renowned Conservationist. This year, John Muir’s hometown plays host to the Street Art Trail. The event’s theme is ‘The Elements’, which plays homage but with a modern edge to John Muir’s life and work.

The event has been organised by hard-working, local volunteers, with support from East Lothian Council. Everyone is absolutely delighted to bring to the town a special Street Art event that will showcase some of the UK’s best talent.

On the day you will experience vibrant, whimsical artworks, live music, performances and workshops which can be found by meandering through our much loved seaside town and inviting local shops.

The event will feature famous, contemporary artists alongside Dunbar’s home-grown talents. The event seeks to blend together the shop local initiative with the world of art so that visitors and locals alike, can experience the great atmosphere for which Dunbar is renowned.

It’s completely free, is family friendly and provides a unique opportunity to see some of the finest examples of Street Art on show and being created, alongside a wide of variety of other attractions, in an intimate and personable small town setting.

We are offering free bike hire on the day if you’d like to cycle around the Trail, town or along the John Muir Way, contact us for details. There is much to explore!

Start the Trail with us, check out the Art we’ve created from recycling bicycle parts and scrap metal and you mustn’t miss our newest Art piece, created especially for the Street Art Trail which will be appearing on Saturday!

“Colin’s day job is owner of the local bike shop, Belhaven Bikes in Dunbar. A couple of years ago he started to create items out of recycled bicycle parts and scrap metal to tie in with local events. He then progressed to producing sculptures and has since been commissioned to create a variety of art including skulls, stag heads…even sunflowers! His background gives him a strong grounding, and interest, in Art and Technical design. Both qualities enable him to take the service of the bike workshop at Belhaven Bikes beyond average capabilities and have proved a catalyst for his artistic work.”

Then pick up a Trail leaflet, which will give you all the information you need for the day … set off and take in every part of the Trail which is set to offer an eclectic and truly memorable day!

If like us, and ‘Wheels are your thing’! too, then be sure to catch one the bike trials stunt shows during the day. These will be taking place at Bleachingfield, in front of Dunbar Primary, John Muir campus. In between shows the stunt team will offer free coaching so remember to bring your helmet and bike if you’d like to take part!
